Welcome to RCM (Revenue Cycle Management) - a demonstration platform showcasing how AI can transform healthcare billing workflows.

What is RCM?​

RCM is a demonstration project that illustrates how AI assistants can help healthcare organizations manage the revenue cycle more efficiently. It's built as a proof-of-concept to show the potential of conversational AI in healthcare billing.

The Problem​

Healthcare revenue cycle management involves complex workflows:

  • Billing staff spend hours researching denial codes and payer policies
  • Cash leakage occurs when denials aren't worked properly
  • Preventable coding errors cause unnecessary claim rejections
  • Appeals and write-offs require manual decision-making

Traditional RCM systems require staff to navigate multiple screens, run reports, and manually apply business rules.

The AI-Powered Approach​

RCM demonstrates how AI can simplify these workflows through natural conversation:

Instead of this:

  1. Log into RCM system
  2. Look up denial code in reference manual
  3. Check organization policies spreadsheet
  4. Calculate if amount meets appeal threshold
  5. Decide action and document reasoning

Staff can do this:

"We got a CO-197 denial for $450. What should we do?"

The AI assistant instantly provides:

  • Denial classification and explanation
  • Policy-based recommendation
  • Success probability and next steps

Technology Stack​

This demo is built using:

  • Model Context Protocol (MCP) - Connects AI assistants to RCM tools
  • PostgreSQL - Stores claims, denials, appeals, and workflow data
  • TypeScript - Type-safe tool implementations
  • AWS CDK - Infrastructure as code for deployment
